2008: Respect
Me National Conference – 21st February 2008
‘Respect Me’ is the national anti-bullying service launched
in March 2007. It is holding its first national conference for parents,
practitioners and policy-makers next month in Glasgow and will provide
an opportunity for early years workers and managers to discuss and
debate the question: “Bullying … whose responsibility

Playwork conference. Early Years Minister Adam Ingram MSP
is the guest speaker at SkillsActive's 'Professionalisng Playwork'

2007: Charity
regulator names defaulters. The Office of the Scottish Charity
Regulator (OSCR) has begun to publish details of charities that have
failed to provide it with Annual Returns and accounts. More

2007: SPPA’s
Board
of Directors has been bolstered by the appointment of two respected
figures from the early years sector. Fraser Sanderson, former
Director of Education at Dumfries & Galloway Council, and Alice
Sharp, writer, educationalist and early years practitioner, will officially
take up their posts in November.
August
2007: Funding
boost for the early years. The Scottish Executive has announced
that a new £8m capital fund is to be made available to Local
Authorities in Scotland in 2007-08. More

2007: Executive announce increase in pre-school
entitlement. Fiona
Hyslop, the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning,
has announced an increase in the entitlement to free pre-school education
from the current level of 412.5 to 475 hours per year. More

2007: Childcare workforce review update. Following
the publication of the Scottish Ministers' response to the National
Review of the Early Years and Childcare Workforce “Investing
in Children’s Futures” , the Scottish Social Services
Council (SSSC) was asked to take forward key proposals. More

groups. New
regulations affecting employees' holiday entitlement have been introduced.
