New Approach to Disclosure Checks Announced
A news release from Scottish Government yesterday (10.11.09) announced a new scheme that will better safeguard vulnerable groups and end the need for people to complete detailed application forms every time a disclosure check is required and a second round of consultation on key elements of secondary legislation that will be needed before a phased implementation of the scheme from late 2010. SPPA has been involved in earlierconsultation and welcomes the schemes intention of
- replacing the need for multiple 'one-off' checks - which currently cost £23 a time - with a system that continually updates relevant information.
- ensuring that people who become unsuitable during their employment are quickly identified.
- allowing employers to check records quickly and easily while reducing the time and cost demands on individuals when their circumstances change.
SPPA also welcomes the Ministers commitment to providing up to £53 million to cover the cost of implementing the PVG Scheme.
The announcement also indicates that initial membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Adults Scheme will cost £59 with a lower fee of £18 for subsequent records updates.
